She reported on sports for several of the largest outlets in the country. The newspaper she worked for was The Washington Post nearly a decade covering Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football, as well as basketball at multiple Olympics. In 2004 Nichols transferred to ESPN for a period of nine years in which she earned 2 Emmy Awards and appeared on many of the network's most watched programs, like SportsCenter as well as NFL Countdown. The Monday Night Football coverage as the team's reporter was an integral part of her work for the network. Next was CNN after which she joined Turner Sports. Unguarded: Rachel Nichols hosted her own show on CNN International. More than 1 billion people watched it worldwide. Nichols was also a reporter on behalf of TNT for NBA broadcasts during playoffs, as well as the broadcasts of the All-Star games. She also reported for TBS reporting on golf and baseball broadcasts as well as Final Four broadcasts on CBS. It was only the 2nd time in its 42-year history that a women had been chosen from over 200 nominations.
